Belleair garage sale to benefit RCS

Bellair Beach Garage Sale – For the second year in a row, Belleair neighbors have pulled their treasures together for a garage sale to raise money for RCS Food Pantry.

The event will be Saturday, July 25, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the cul de sac near South Garden Circle. Items will be priced from $1 to $20 with some furniture ranging from $25 to $100. Treasures for sale will include children’s clothes, children’s toys, electronics, tools, lumber, household goods, furniture, adult clothing, decorations, fixtures, bicycles and more. For the most part items will be priced in groups, $1, $2, $5, $10, $15 and $20.

“Come looking for a deal but don’t come to haggle us. There are countless families without food in our community and we need to raise as much money as possible,” said event organizer Amy Maguire.

Last year the Maguire family matched the amount raised and are hoping to do it again this year. Donations of nonperishable food items for RCS will be collected at the garage sale, as well.

Bellair Causeway Demolition today will close bridge, detour traffic

Bellair Causeway Demolition

A controlled and barely visible or audible explosion is scheduled this morning to demolish two bascule piers and their towers on the former Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge.

The detonation is scheduled for about 9:30 a.m. County officials said the only noise will be a "thud."

The new bridge and the Intracoastal Waterway will be closed to traffic intermittently from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the demolition. Bridge traffic will be detoured south to the Indian Rocks Bridge at Walsingham Road.

The Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Coast Guard, will prohibit boats from entering a 2,400-foot safety zone around the demolition site. County officials said they are taking extra precautions for the safety of dolphins and manatees that might be in the area.
